Avenging Angel is my re-imagined vision of the infamous Gormley statue that stands by the A1 (The Great North Road) just outside the town of Gateshead in County Durham. Traditionally, pictures of this massive sculpture show the arms outstretched, in a protective gesture, perhaps guarding the souls that pass by or live int eh town. I envisaged how he'd look if he were praying for those souls - as well as protecting them.
